Description:

'Noare' is a small shrub rose which has a trailing growth habit. The stem has thorns present, which are concave in shape, and a sparse number of short prickles. The thorns and prickles are red brown in colour. The leaves are medium green in colour with strong glossiness. There are five to seven leaflets. The terminal leaflet has a serrate margin and a leathery texture. The base of the terminal leaflet is rounded in shape.

'Noare' flowers mid-season and almost continuously for more than ten weeks. There are a very high number of flowers per shoot. The flower pedicel has a few hairs or prickles. The flower bud is pointed in shape and there are weak sepal extensions. The flower shape when viewed from above is irregularly rounded and flat on the upper and lower part when viewed from the side. The flower centre is normal. The corolla is semi-double and dark red in colour. The upper and lower side of the petal has a very small spot on the base. The petal margin has medium reflexing and undulation. The outer stamen has a yellow filament. The style is medium in length, yellow in colour and has no hairs on the upper half. The stigma is positioned above the anthers. The receptacle is small in size, pitcher shaped and has no prickles. The flower of 'Noare' has a weak, tea fragrance. 'Noare' is moderately resistant to mildew and resistant to black spot.

Origin & Breeding History: 'Noare' originated from the uncontrolled pollination between 'Ricarda' and an unknown pollen parent. The breeding work was done in Gütersloh, Germany in 1989. Selection criteria included strong floral characteristics with almost continuous flowering, good disease resistance and vigorous growth.

Tests & Trials: Tests and trials for 'Noare' were conducted in the summer of 2002 at Pan American Nursery Products Inc. in Surrey, British Columbia. The trials consisted of six plants per variety grown outdoors in 20 cm pots.
