'Chewallbell' was selected in 2005 based on its disease resistance, glossy foliage, free flowering habit, attractiveness and abundance of flowers, and flower colour. Asexual reproduction of 'Chewallbell' was first conducted by softwood cuttings in 2005 in Newport, Shropshire, United Kingdom.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'Chewallbell' was conducted outdoors during the summer of 2014 at BioFlora Inc. in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trial included a total of 10 plants each of the candidate and reference variety. All plants were grown from liners transplanted into 9 litre pots in July 2013. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants or parts of plants of each variety on July 21, 2014.
