Variety Description

Varieties used for comparison: '92Y11' and 'CF40GR'

Summary: The pubescence on the middle third of the stem of 'P19T01R' is light tawny whereas it is grey on 'CF40GR'. When 50% of the pods are ripe, the plants of 'P19T01R' are shorter than those of 'CF40GR'. The pod colour for 'P19T01R' is medium to dark brown whereas it is light to medium brown for the reference varieties. The seed shape of 'P19T01R' is spherical flattened whereas it is spherical for 'CF40GR'. The hilum colour of 'P19T01R' is dark brown whereas it is imperfect black on 'CF40GR'. 'P19T01R' is later maturing than 'CF40GR'.

Origin & Breeding History: 'P19T01R' (experimental designations 'XB19D12' and 'PH12109') is the result of the cross between 'XB21R05' and '92M02' conducted in 2005 in Dallas Center, Iowa, USA. The modified single seed descent method and pedigree method were used to develop the variety. The F1-F2 generations were grown in Salinas, Puerto Rico and the F3 was grown in Redwood Falls, Minnesota, USA. The F4 generation grown in Viluco, Chili and the F5-F6 generations grown in Redwood Falls, Minnesota were advanced based on yield for single plants and progeny rows. Single plant purification took place in 2009 in Redwood Falls, Minnesota. Wide area testing continued from 2010-2012 in the USA and Canada. Selection criteria included yield, maturity and resistance to Roundup branded herbicides, to Phytophthora rot (Phytophthora megasperma f. sp. glycinea) and soybean cyst nematodes (Heterodera glycines).

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'P19T01R' conducted in Chatham, Ontario during the 2013 growing season was planted in a RCB design and consisted of 3 replicates for each variety. Plots consisted of 2 rows 4 metres in length and a row spacing of 76 cm. Each plot was sown with 300 seeds per replication. For each variety, the plant height was based on 30 measurements whereas the seed weight was based on 3 measurements. Mean differences were significant at the 5% probability level based on LSD values. Results were supported by the official technical examination report 201200200, purchased from the Plant Variety Protection Office, Beltsville, Maryland, USA.
