Varieties used for comparison: 'Ventana' and 'Camarosa'

Summary: The plants of 'DrisStrawFortySeven' have medium vigour whereas the plants of 'Ventana' have strong vigour. The plants of 'DrisStrawFortySeven' begin flowering mid-season whereas those of 'Ventana' begin flowering early. The position of the inflorescence of 'DrisStrawFortySeven' is above the foliage whereas that for 'Ventana' is at the same level as the foliage. The plants of 'DrisStrawFortySeven' have many stolons whereas those of both reference varieties have a medium number of stolons. The stolons of 'DrisStrawFortySeven' have a medium intensity of anthocyanin colouration whereas those of 'Camarosa' have a strong intensity of anthocyanin colouration. The stipule of 'DrisStrawFortySeven' has a weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration whereas that of 'Ventana' has a medium intensity of anthocyanin colouration. The flowers of 'DrisStrawFortySeven' have a medium diameter whereas those of 'Camarosa' have a large diameter. The calyx of 'DrisStrawFortySeven' is the same size as the corolla whereas that of both reference varieties is larger than the corolla. The fruit of 'DrisStrawFortySeven' ripen mid-season whereas those of 'Ventana' ripen early. The fruit of 'DrisStrawFortySeven' is moderately longer than it is wide whereas the fruit of 'Ventana' is much longer than it is wide. The fruit of 'DrisStrawFortySeven' is medium sized whereas that of 'Ventana' is very large and that of 'Camarosa' is large. The terminal fruit of 'DrisStrawFortySeven' has none or a very slight difference in shape from the other fruit whereas the terminal fruit of 'Camarosa' has a moderate difference in shape from the other fruit. The fruit surface of 'DrisStrawFortySeven' is even or very slightly uneven whereas that of 'Camarosa' is slightly uneven. The band without achenes on the fruit of 'DrisStrawFortySeven' is absent or very narrow whereas it is narrow for 'Camarosa'. The calyx attachment for 'DrisStrawFortySeven' is level with the fruit whereas it is raised for 'Ventana'. The calyx of 'DrisStrawFortySeven' is slightly larger than the fruit whereas for 'Ventana' it is the same size as the fruit and for 'Camarosa' it is much larger than the fruit. The fruit of 'DrisStrawFortySeven' is very firm whereas it is of medium firmness for 'Ventana'.

FLOWER: calyx same size as corolla, medium diameter, overlapping petal arrangement, stamen present
PETAL: length equal to width, white inner side

CALYX: attachment level with fruit, diameter slightly larger than fruit, outward attitude of sepals, strong adherence to fruit
FRUIT: begins ripening mid-season, moderately longer than wide, medium size, conical, none or very slight difference in shape between terminal fruit and other fruit, very firm

Origin & Breeding History: 'DrisStrawFortySeven' originated from a cross conducted in January 2009 in Ventura County, California, USA. The cross was made between the proprietary female parent '41Q324' and the proprietary male parent 'DrisStrawThirtySeven'. A single plant was selected for asexual propagation by tissue culture and vegetative cuttings in 2009 in Shasta County, California, USA based on plant growth habit, disease resistance, fruit size, fruit colour and taste. Further propagation and testing was conducted in Ventura County from 2010 to 2015.

Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'DrisStrawFortySeven' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number 2016/0551, purchased from the Community Plant Variety Office, in Angers, France. The trials were conducted at the Escaroupim Studies Center - Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development, in Portugal from 2017 to 2018.
