Summary: 'Eveline' has a taller, wider plant than 'Royal Candles'. 'Eveline' has a slightly longer leaf length than 'Royal Candles'.

Description:

'Eveline' is a vegetatively reproduced, perennial veronica variety. 'Eveline' has an upright bushy to bushy rounded growth habit and has dense branching. The stems are medium green in colour and have no anthocyanin colouration. The stems have no glaucosity and have sparse pubescence. The stems are medium in thickness and smooth in shape.

The simple leaves are lanceolate in shape with an acute shaped apex and cuneate shaped base. The leaf margins are finely serrate. The upper side of the leaf blade has sparse pubescence and the lower side has very sparse pubescence. There is no glaucosity on the upper side of the leaf blade. The upper side of the leaf blade is light to medium green in colour and the lower side is medium green. There is no leaf variegation. The petiole has no anthocyanin.

'Eveline' flowers mid season and flowers almost continuously over a long period of time. The inflorescence is a raceme andis terminal in position. The flowers are violet blue in colour (RHS 94A/95B).

Origin & Breeding History: 'Eveline' was developed in Rijpwetering, The Netherlands is 2000. The new variety was selected from a seedling population that was produced by collecting seed from the open pollination of various unnamed Veronica plants in 1998.

Tests & Trials: 'Eveline' was tested at Oxford Station, Ontario in the summer/fall of 2004. The trial included ten plants per variety which were planted in the field in rows. Plants were spaced 0.40 metres apart and spacing between rows was 1.0 metres. All colour characteristics were determined using the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart (1995 green box edition) and measured characteristics were based on ten measurements.
