The 2008 PPV sampling began on May 17th with homeowners in the St. Catharines area. On June 4th orchard sampling began and has achieved 541,756 samples as of July 31st with the combined efforts of CFIA and Agricorp. Despite the very rainy weather, sampling is progressing as planned and results so far show a decrease in the number of positive samples. To date there has been 93 confirmed positive samples in 60 blocks located across the Niagara Quarantine areas. Also four (4) samples from residential properties have tested positive for PPV.
Survey activities have been completed. A total of 74 samples have been collected in 10 orchards blocks from 3 different growers. All samples have tested negative.
