GENERAL

• Origin & Breeding: bred by Agriculture Canada from the cross (G64-124-5p x SJ62-26-14) at the St. John's Research Station, Newfoundland, in 1971.
• Year registered in Canada: 1983
• Registration number: 2337
• Maturity: mid-season

BOTANICAL FEATURES

• Plants: medium sized; erect to semi-erect; deep purple stems; prominent straight to wavy wings; green nodes slightly swollen.
• Leaves: dark green, semi-open to open; petioles strongly pigmented, very slightly pubescent; midribs strongly pigmented on upper surface, green streaked purple on lower surface, occasional long hairs.
  Terminal leaflets: ovate, acuminate tip, base asymmetrical.
  Primary leaflets: two to three pairs; oval to ovate; base symmetrical to slightly asymmetrical.
  Secondary leaflets: three to five pairs, small.
• Flowers: numerous, large mauve corolla with white tips, colour is absent on upper surface of petals at the base; orange anthers; drooping pubescent buds, purple at base; occasional berry production.
• Tubers: round to oval; smooth purple skin; shallow eyes; cream to very pale yellow flesh.
• Sprouts: purple.

AGRICULTURAL FEATURES

High yielding variety; good storability, short dormancy period; medium specific gravity.

REMARK: plant 25 to 30 cm apart on the row to avoid oversize.

• Utilization: good for boiling and french frying.
• Chief Market: fresh market in Newfoundland

REACTION TO DISEASES

Resistant: potato wart (races 2, 8).
Moderately resistant: common scab, late blight, storage diseases.
Susceptible: potato cyst nematode, rhizoctonia.
