GENERAL

• Origin & Breeding: bred by the USDA from the cross (Russet Burbank x B8281-5) at the Beltsville Agricultural Research Center in Beltsville, Maryland (USA). Released in 1988.
• Year registered in Canada: 1994
• Registration number: 3970
• Maturity: mid-season

BOTANICAL FEATURES

• Plants: medium large, erect; stems slightly pubescent; wings prominent, waved; nodes slightly swollen, pigmented.
• Leaves: medium green, rough, closed; midribs and petioles not pigmented, slightly pubescent.
  Terminal leaflets: medium ovate; base lobed, mostly symmetrical; medium wavy margins.
  Primary leaflets: three pairs; large; base lobed, asymmetrical.
  Secondary and tertiary leaflets: numerous.
• Flowers: numerous; medium violet corolla with cream tips, flat when fully open; yellow-orange anthers; long peduncles (flowers well above foliage); flower buds pigmented.
• Tubers: oblong to long, smooth; medium russetted tan skin; shallow eyes, evenly distributed; white flesh.
• Sprouts: conical, pale purple; base weakly pigmented; apex very weakly pigmented; moderately pubescent.

AGRICULTURAL FEATURES

High yielding variety, early tuber set. Highly resistant to hollow heart and net necrosis caused by leaf roll. Good storability; short to medium dormancy period; medium specific gravity.

• Utilization: no after cooking discoloration; excellent for boiling and baking; not suitable for processing.
• Chief Markets: count carton and special pack trade as a baker.

REACTION TO DISEASES

Good resistance: common scab, pink eye.
Susceptible: late blight.
