Test 32: Leak-Protector Valve on Batch Pasteurizer Outlet Valves
All batch pasteurizer outlet valves.
Upon installation and at least once every 6 months thereafter.
No leakage of milk or milk product past the outlet valve seat in any closed position.
- Fill the batch (vat) to the level of normal operation with milk, milk product or water so that pressure is exerted against the closed outlet valve.
- Observe if there is any leaking milk, milk product or water past the outlet valve seat into the valve outlet when pressure is exerted against the upstream face of the valve.
- Turn the outlet valve to the just-closed position and examine for any leakage into the valve outlet.
- Record the findings.
If leakage past the outlet valve seat should occur in any closed position, the outlet valve plug should be re-ground, gaskets replaced, or any other necessary steps shall be taken to prevent leakage.
