Subject: Amended Certificate for Exports of Fishery Products to China

Effective January 1, 2013, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the People's Republic of China (AQSIQ) will require an amended certificate for fishery products exported from Canada. This certificate does not apply to exports of live fish.

The certificate requires exporters to provide new information with respect to the origin of the fish. Consistent with current practice, exporters are required to identify the origin of the fish as being either farmed or wild caught. In addition to this information, exporters are now required to identify:

  • For wild caught fish, the name and number of one of the fishing vessels used to harvest the fish that is being exported, along with the FAO fishing zone;
  • For farmed fish, the name and address of one of the fish farms where the fish were raised.

CFIA inspectors now have access to this certificate. Effective immediately, please ensure that you provide the CFIA with the additional information necessary to complete the certificate in accordance with established procedures.

Thank you for your cooperation. Should you have any further questions about the new information required for the certificate, please contact your local CFIA office.

Sincerely,

Terence McRae
