Tolerances or Guidelines

Cadmium: 2.0 ppm (for molluscs only)
Copper: 60.0 ppm
Zinc: 40.0 ppm
Lead: 0.3 ppm
Mercury: 0.5 ppm (except for these species: shark, tuna and grouper)

Antibiotics are prohibited.

Food Additives Approved in Korea:

Redfish: Sustane Emulsion T

  • Antioxidant composed of Butylated hydroxytoluene.

Certification Requirement

Live Lobster:

Certificate of Inspection Content, CFIA/ACIA 5006 with the following statement added:

The above product does not contain antibiotics, and the levels of the following heavy metals are below the tolerances listed:

Copper: 60.0 ppm
Zinc: 40.0 ppm
Lead: 0.3 ppm
Mercury: 0.5 ppm

Seal meat:

The entry of seal organs and seal penis is not permitted.

Seals must be harvested from Canadian waters.

The following attestations must be added to the Certificate of Origin and Hygiene CFIA/ACIA 5003 :

"The seal meat originates from Harp Seal (Phoca groenlandica) and/or Grey Seal (Halichoerus grypus) only."

The seal meat has been processed at an establishment that has been determined to be in good regulatory standing with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency under a HACCP and sanitary program consistently implemented and in accordance with the requirements laid down in Codex Code of Practice for Fish and Fishery Products (CAC/RCP 52-2003).

Harp Seals (Phoca groenlandica) and Grey Seals (Halichoerus grypus) originating from Canadian waters are not Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) listed species.

"Canada has not reported any animal contagious diseases listed by the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) in seals, and there are no associated animal health restrictions required for Canadian seal meat for human consumption."

Surimi products containing powdered beef blood products:

Surimi products containing ruminant ingredients can only be certified if the ruminant ingredient originates from a country that is recognized as being Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE) free.

The following attestation must be added to the Certificate of Origin and Hygiene CFIA/ACIA 5003 :

"The food additive of ruminant origin (powdered beef blood product), used in the preparation of the fish product described below, originates from (indicate the country which must be recognized as BSE free). The (indicate the country of origin of the ruminant ingredient) is free from animals infected with Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE)."
