File a complaint related to the Canada Organic Regime

Complaints can be filed against any product with a suspected fraudulent organic claim sold in Canada, any operator (company) holding certification under the COR scope, Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) designated Conformity Verification Bodies (CVB), CFIA accredited Certification Bodies (CB), and the Canada Organic Regime (COR) team.

Who can file a complaint?

Anyone who suspects a violation of the COR may contact the CFIA and submit a complaint.

How does the CFIA manage the complaint(s)?

Your complaint will be directed to one of the CFIA branches responsible for the enforcement of the COR depending on the nature of the complaint.

The information below will help you to better understand the complaint management process.

Complaints about suspected fraudulent organic claims or activities

You can contact the CFIA to file a complaint regarding any suspected fraudulent organic claims including the labelling/safety or quality of a food product except, in Quebec where the Ministère de l'Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l'Alimentation du Québec is the lead organization for all consumer concerns.

Complaints against the regulated parties involved in the certification of organic products

You can contact the CFIA COR team to file a complaint regarding the activities of the CFIA-designated CVB, CFIA accredited CB and any operator holding certification under the COR scope. Only complaints related to activities within the COR scope will be accepted once their validity is determined.

The COR team may request more information from the complainant, if required. Once the complaint is closed by the COR team, the complainant will be notified in writing that the complaint has been addressed.
