- Origin & Breeding: bred from the cross (Wischip x Wis69-49.74) made in 1975 at the University of Wisconsin; selected by the University of Wisconsin and Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada Lethbridge Research Center, Alberta.
- Year registered in Canada: 2000

- Plants: medium, spreading; stems medium thick, not pigmented; prominent straight single wings; nodes slightly swollen.
- Leaves: medium green, open, pubescent; petioles and midribs not pigmented.
Terminal leaflets: broadly ovate; tip acuminate; base truncate and symmetrical.
Primary leaflets: three pairs; medium ovate; tip acuminate, base truncate and asymmetrical.
- Flowers: numerous; white corolla; lemon yellow anthers; flower buds persistent, moderately pigmented; low berry production.
- Tubers: oval, uniform; smooth white skin; medium deep eyes, evenly distributed; eyebrows not prominent; white flesh.
- Sprouts: conical; moderately pubescent; very strong red-violet pigmentation at the base, weaker at the apex.
High yielding variety with high number of tubers per plant and very low tuber deformities. This variety should be grown with an in-row spacing of 30 cm. Tubers are concentrated in the hill, which facilitates harvest. High specific gravity. Medium dormancy period. Good storability; maintains excellent chip quality in long-term storage.
Remark: AC Glacier Chip can be stored at 8 °C instead of 10 °C which is the conventional temperature for chip stock. The advantage for producers is longer maintenance of chip quality and fewer storage problems.
- Utilization: no after cooking discolouration and low boiling sloughing; excellent chip quality.
- Chief Market: chipping.
Reaction to Diseases
Moderately resistant: early blight.
Moderately susceptible: common scab, verticillium wilt.
Susceptible: late blight.
