General

  • Origin & Breeding: bred by Agriculture Canada from the cross (N150-3 x Wauseon) made in 1965 at the St. John's Research Station, in Newfoundland.
  • Year registered in Canada: 1986
  • Registration number: 2673
  • Maturity: mid-season

Botanical Features

  • Plants: large, erect to semi-erect; stems slightly pigmented; nodes not swollen, not pigmented; wings prominent and straight.
  • Leaves: intermediate to closed; glabrous; young foliage sulphury yellow, turn medium green as leaves expand; midribs and petioles not pigmented and glabrous; midribs prominent.
    Terminal leaflets: ovate; tip cuspidate; base symmetrical.
    Primary leaflets: three pairs; point toward stem; broadly ovate; tip cuspidate; base symmetrical.
    Secondary leaflets: three pairs, medium to large, ovate.
  • Flowers: abundant; inflorescence carried above foliage; large white corolla, slight bronzing on under surfaces of petals; large orange anthers; buds drooping, bronzed at base, slightly pubescent; high berry production.
  • Tubers: round to oval; white skin, slight flaky russetting in some soils; shallow eyes; pale yellow flesh.
  • Sprouts: reddish purple, pubescent.

Agricultural Features

High yielding variety of attractive appearance; tubers are uniform in size; relatively resistant to damage during harvesting; moderately resistant to greening; good storability; high dry matter.

  • Utilization: none to trace after cooking discolouration; very good boiling and home french fries quality.
  • Chief Market: fresh market.

Reaction to Diseases

Resistant: potato wart (races 2 and 8), golden nematode (Globodera rostochiensis Ro1).
Moderately resistant: tuber late blight, rhizoctonia, storages diseases.
Susceptible: common scab.
