General

• Origin & Breeding: bred by Agriculture Canada from the cross (Hindenburg x Sebago) and selected at the Fredericton Research Station, New Brunswick in 1943.
• Garden variety
• Registration in Canada: exempted
• Maturity: very late

Botanical Features

• Plants: large, spreading at maturity; stems uniformly bright green, solid, more or less decumbent; nodes not swollen; wings prominent, straight or slightly waved.
• Leaves: long, slightly drooping, slightly pubescent.
  Terminal leaflets: ovate-lanceolate, pointed; base cordate or oblique.
  Primary leaflets: same shape as terminal leaflets, four pairs.
• Flowers: small, light mauve with white tips,  long peduncles, blossom over a very short period.
• Tubers: oblong, flattened, medium thick; slightly flaked creamy buff skin; medium deep eyes; white flesh.
• Sprouts: brownish purple.

Agricultural Features

High yielding variety; shows promise for organic soils; resistant to skinning; stores well. High total solids.

• Utilization: good for boiling and baking, suitable for chipping at harvest and after storage above 10 °C.

Reaction to Diseases

Very resistant: common scab.
Some resistance: early blight and late blight.
Susceptible: black leg, fusarium dry rot, leaf roll, verticillium wilt, viruses A, X and Y.

Note : under exposed or dry conditions, the leaves of many plants roll making the identification of leaf roll more uncertain.
