  • Origin & Breeding: bred by the Quebec Ministry of Agriculture, Alimentation and Fisheries from the cross (Belchip x Norland) at Les Buissons Research Station, Quebec (Canada) in 1987.

Botanical Features

  • Plants: medium to tall, upright, open; stems strongly pigmented; wings prominent, waved single; nodes strongly swollen, strongly pigmented.
  • Leaves: dark green, close, pubescent; midribs moderately pigmented; petioles not pigmented.
    Terminal leaflets: oblong; apex acuminate; base acute and very slightly asymmetrical.
    Primary leaflets: four pairs, very large; broadly ovate; apex acuminate; base cordate, very slightly asymmetrical.
  • Flowers: highly abundant, medium-large violet corolla; orange anther; flower buds very strongly pigmented; peduncle weakly pigmented; low berry production.
  • Tubers: round to oval; smooth pink skin; shallow to medium-deep eyes, intermediate in number, evenly distributed; slightly prominent eyebrows; white flesh.
  • Sprouts: spherical, strongly pubescent, pinkish purple; base strongly pigmented; apex very weakly pigmented.

Agricultural Features

High yielding variety; large tubers; short dormancy period; medium specific gravity.

  • Utilization: very low after cooking discoloration and slouching; very good for boiling and french frying; not suitable for chipping.
  • Chief Markets: fresh market for pink skin potatoes, french fries.

Reaction to Diseases

Resistant: golden nematode (Globodera rostochiensis Ro1).
Moderately resistant: verticillium wilt, rhizoctonia.
Moderately susceptible: common scab.
Susceptible: late blight.
