Administrative Monetary Penalties (AMPs) Policy Engagement

The consultation closed on 2016-12-18

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is seeking feedback from Canadians on a draft Administrative Monetary Penalties (AMPs) policy that will cover all food, plant health and animal health sectors. Consultation closes December 18, 2016.

AMPs are one of several measures that the CFIA may use when someone or a company does not comply with rules that help keep food safe and protect the health of plants and animals in Canada. AMPs may be issued with or without a financial penalty, and are used when letters of non-compliance are not a sufficient response but where prosecution is not considered appropriate.

Currently, the CFIA may issue AMPs to those who do not comply with certain federal requirements regarding plant health, animal health and meat inspection.
