Effective September 15, 2016, the Fish Import Licence of Alaska Salmon Wholesale was reinstated and the company was allowed to resume operations under ongoing inspection by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).

August 26, 2016, Ottawa: The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has suspended the fish import licence of Alaska Salmon Wholesale, located in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, effective August 23, 2016.

The import licence was suspended because of failure to comply with requirements of the Fish Inspection Regulations. The company failed to notify the CFIA of imported shipments of fish and distributed product without first obtaining a release from the CFIA.

There are currently no food safety issues associated with this suspension and no product is being recalled at this time.

The company may not import fish products into Canada while its import licence is suspended.

Licences and registrations of federally registered establishments or companies can be suspended or cancelled for failure to comply with relevant CFIA Acts and Regulations. The CFIA publishes a list of suspensions and cancellations on its web site.
