Prosecution bulletin for Spécialités M.B. Inc. – November 20, 2019

June 3, 2019, Ottawa – On May 17, 2019 the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) laid one charge under the Meat Inspection Regulations, 1990, against Spécialités M.B. Inc., in Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec.

The charge alleges that the company processed, packaged and labelled a meat product in a registered establishment outside the hours of operation without authorization, contrary to section 32 of the Meat Inspection Regulations, 1990.

The company will appear in the Court of Québec at the Saint-Hyacinthe Courthouse, located at 1550 Dessaulles Street in Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec, on June 17, 2019, at 9:30 a.m.

CFIA is responsible for the administration and enforcement of federal legislation, acts and regulations, including the Meat Inspection Regulations, 1990. CFIA is dedicated to safeguarding food, animal, and plant health, which enhances the health and well-being of Canada's people, environment, and economy.

CFIA issues notifications of charges laid to inform the public when charges have been laid by CFIA's Enforcement and Investigation Services (EIS). Charges are laid by EIS after the Public Prosecution Service of Canada (PPSC) decides to prosecute the charges. This notice is part of our commitment to openness and transparency, and ongoing efforts to increase awareness of our role in encouraging compliance with the various acts and regulations. In all cases, the subject of charges is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
