April 21, 2016, Ottawa: The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has suspended the fish import licence of Milagro Import/Export Inc., effective April 18, 2016. The company is located in Mississauga, Ontario.

The fish import licence was suspended because the company contravened sections 6.(2.2)(b), 6.(2.3) and 8.(4) of the Fish Inspection Regulations. The company failed to obtain the permission of an inspector to move fish that has been imported into Canada; defaced or removed a CFIA tag and disposed of the fish products without obtaining a release from an inspector; and failed to make readily accessible to an inspector any fish or containers for which inspection is required.

There is no recall associated with this suspension.

The company may not import fish into Canada while its fish import licence is suspended.

An appeal can be requested within 60 days of suspension of the fish import licence. This request must be accompanied by an acceptable, written corrective action plan.

Licences and registrations of federally registered establishments or companies can be suspended or cancelled for failure to comply with relevant CFIA Acts and Regulations. The CFIA publishes a list of suspensions and cancellations on its web site.
