Proposed document to be incorporated by reference – Compendium of Medicating Ingredient Brochures

Although the Compendium of Medicating Ingredient Brochures (CMIB) is already incorporated by reference in the Feeds Regulations, 1983, the new proposed incorporation by reference (IbR) document reflects some formatting changes and standardization of language. However, changes made to the current CMIB after January 2021 are not reflected in the new proposed IbR document.

The changes in the new proposed IbR document include:

• updating the table title from "Table of approved species and claims" to "Table of livestock species and approved claims"
• changing the column titles within that table
  • "approved livestock species" to "Livestock species"
  • "approved claim(s) (abbreviated)" to "Approved claim(s) for the medicating ingredient (abbreviated)"
  • "name of approved brand(s)" to "Name of the approved brand(s) of the medicating ingredient"
• currently, information for each livestock species just lists the species, for example "broiler chickens". A header has been added so it now indicates "Livestock species: Broiler chickens"
• the "Table of approved claims and brands" has had the column header "Drug concentration in DIN product" updated to "Level of the medicating ingredient in the approved brand(s)" to better reflect the terminology in the proposed Feeds Regulations, 2022
• under each of the claims, the title "Level of medicating ingredient in a complete feed" has been changed to "Level of medicating ingredient in the feed" and "Directions for use in a complete feed" has been changed to "Directions for use for the medicated feed" for a more consistent approach. The type of feed is then reflected in the text
• titles for informational boxes have been standardized to:
  • additional information not to appear on feed labels
  • additional information to be added as notes to feed labels
• for medicating ingredients that are considered medically important, the prudent use statement has been removed from "Directions for use" and added as a separate statement that must appear on feed labels

These changes are more consistent with the language in the proposed Feeds Regulations, 2022 and have been standardized throughout the CMIB. This should provide a document that is easier to read and that enables people to better navigate it.
