Notice to industry - needs assessment survey for modernizing the Seeds Regulations

Canadian farmers rely on efficient and flexible Seeds Regulations that help to prevent fraud and ensure the traceability, quality and safety of Canada's seed supply, which is the basis for agricultural production. That is why the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is updating the Seeds Regulations.

The Seeds Regulations modernization initiative is a multi-year, structured and comprehensive review of Canada's seed and seed potato system. The CFIA aims to reduce complexity of the existing requirements while keeping pace with our fast-changing world.

The CFIA is looking to update the Seeds Regulations to:

As an initial step in this modernization initiative, we are seeking feedback through a needs assessment survey in order to establish a baseline understanding of seed and seed potato stakeholder needs. It's important to hear from everyone with an interest in the Seeds Regulations - including farmers, seed dealers, associations, among others.

Modernizing the seeds regulations is just one way the CFIA is working to protect plant health and support innovation.
