Variety Description

Variety used for comparison: 'Ben Lomond'

Summary: The plants of 'Gofert' are tall whereas the plants of 'Ben Lomond' are short. The intensity of anthocyanin colouration of the leaf and stem of the young shoot of 'Gofert' is weak to medium whereas the intensity is very strong for 'Ben Lomond'. The upper side of the leaf blade of 'Gofert' is medium green whereas the upper side of the leaf blade of 'Ben Lomond' is dark green. The degree of glossiness of the upper side of the leaf blade is medium for 'Gofert' whereas the degree of glossiness is strong for 'Ben Lomond'.

Origin & Breeding History: 'Gofert' was bred and developed by the breeders, Stanislaw Pluta and Edward Zurawicz, both employed at the Instytut Ogrodnictwa (Research Institute of Horticulture), in Skierniewice, Poland. It originated from a cross conducted in 1987 at the Experimental Station in Dabrowice, Poland, between the variety 'Golubka', as the female parent, and the variety 'Fertodi-1', as the male parent. Seedlings derived from the cross were planted in the field in the spring of 1988 and evaluated from 1990 to 1993. 'Gofert' was selected in 1996 for its plant growth and habit, early fruit ripening, high fruit productivity, fruit size, high fruit quality, disease resistance and winter hardiness. It was further tested from 1997 to 2004 at the Experimental Station in Dabrowice. 'Gofert' was first propagated asexually by hardwood stem cuttings in 2010, in Skierniewice, Poland.

Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'Gofert' is based on the Report on Technical Examination, reference number RS 812, purchased from the Centralny Osrodek Badania Odmian Roslin Uprawnych, in Slupia Wielka, Poland. The trial was conducted by the Centralny Osrodek Badania Odmian Roslin Uprawnych, in Slupia Wielka, Poland, from 2005 to 2009.
