Summary: The leaf of 'ZF05-196' is larger than the leaf of 'Liberty'. The leaf margin for 'ZF05-196' is entire whereas it is serrate for 'Liberty'. 'ZF05-196' has an inflorescence that is longer than that of both reference varieties. The corolla tube of 'ZF05-196' is large whereas it is medium in size for 'Liberty'. 'ZF05-196' fruit is large to very large whereas the fruit is medium to large for 'Duke'. The sepal of 'ZF05-196' is straight with an erect attitude whereas the sepal for 'Liberty' is incurving with a semi-erect attitude. The fruit of 'ZF05-196' has high sweetness and low to medium acidity whereas the fruit of 'Liberty' has low to medium sweetness and low acidity. Fruit ripening on one-year-old shoots begin mid-season for 'ZF05-196' whereas it begins very early to early for 'Duke'.

Origin & Breeding History: 'ZF05-196' arose from a cross between 'Duke' (female parent) and 'Legacy' (male parent) made in 2002 in Lowell, Oregon. From the resulting progeny, 'ZF05-196' was selected in 2005 for its vigour, length of fruit cluster, and taste.
Tests & Trials: The comparative trials for 'ZF05-196' were conducted by Expert Agriculture Team Ltd., in Chilliwack, British Columbia during the 2015 growing season. The plots were planted in the spring of 2014 in a randomized complete block design. Each variety consisted of 3 replicates with 3 plants per replicate for a total of 9 plants of each variety. Plants were spaced approximately 60 centimetres apart within rows and 3 metres between rows. Measurements were taken from 9 plants or parts of plants of each variety. Mean differences were significant at the 5% confidence probability level based on a paired Student's t-test.
