Variety used for comparison: 'Blue Chip'
Summary: The plants of 'Miss Violet' are taller than those of 'Blue Chip'. The leaves of 'Miss Violet' are shorter than those of 'Blue Chip'. The inflorescence of 'Miss Violet' is longer than that of 'Blue Chip'. The inner side of the corolla lobe of 'Miss Violet' is purple with violet tones that with age become blue violet along the margin whereas the corolla lobe of 'Blue Chip' is blue violet and ages to be more violet throughout. The corolla throat of 'Miss Violet' has very sparse pubescence whereas the throat of 'Blue Chip' has medium density pubescence.

LEAF BLADE: medium ovate and elliptic, brown green (RHS N137A) on upper side, no variegation, dentate margin, sparse to medium pubescence on upper side, dense pubescence on lower side, medium degree of bulging between veins
INFLORESCENCE: cylindrical, medium to dense flowers
CALYX: short, medium to dense pubescence
COROLLA BUD: dark violet (RHS 83A) with violet (RHS 77A) tones
COROLLA LOBE: erect to semi-erect attitude at full flowering, touching arrangement, medium depth margin incisions, inner side purple (RHS 72B) with violet (RHS N78A) tones, when aged becomes blue violet (RHS 90B) along margin, orange eye, very sparse pubescence at throat
Origin & Breeding History: 'Miss Violet' originated from a controlled cross conducted at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina, USA, in July 2009. The cross was made between the female parent variety 'Blue Chip' and the male parent variety 'Miss Molly'. The new variety was selected in July 2010 in Jackson Springs, North Carolina based on its low fertility, growth habit, flower colour and fragrance. Asexual propagation by softwood and semi-hardwood stem cuttings of 'Miss Violet' was first conducted in October 2010 in Raleigh, North Carolina, USA.
Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'Miss Violet' was conducted in an outdoor irrigated container trial during the summer of 2017, at Bioflora Inc., in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trial included a total of 12 plants each of the candidate and reference variety. All plants were grown from 10 cm rooted liners and transplanted into 9 litre containers on July 15, 2017. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants, or 10 parts of plants, of each variety on August 27, 2017. All colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
