Origin & Breeding History: 'Cal Yell08' originated from a cross made in March 2004 by the breeder Robert Pierce, in Gilroy, California as part of a planned breeding program. The cross was conducted between the female parent '1142-2' and the male parent '1152-1', both proprietary seedlings. The resultant seed from this cross was sown in a greenhouse in January 2005. In April 2005, a single plant from the progeny was selected by the breeder based on flower size and growth habit.

Tests & Trials: Trials for 'Cal Yell08' were conducted in a polyhouse during the spring of 2008 in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trial included a total of 20 plants each of the candidate and reference varieties. All plants were grown from rooted cuttings and transplanted into 30 cm hanging baskets on May 23, 2008. Each basket contained 4 cuttings with a total of 5 baskets per variety. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants of each variety on July 22, 2008. All colour determinations were made using the 2001 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
