Origin & Breeding History: 'Bobine' originated from an initial cross made in 1993 between line 1089 of Cichorium intybus and a heading or rosette line of Cichorium endivia at La Ménitré, department of Maine-et-Loire, France. From 1994 to 2006, intercrossed progeny of successive generations were selected according to the root tuberization and the capacity to produce highly dentate leaves. At each step, the selected plants were cloned after forcing, vernalized and put in isolation for intercropping. In 2006, two plants, 17-1 and 119729-07, were crossed and the resulting self-crossed progeny was evaluated for 5 generations. In 2012, the variety 'Bobine' resulted from this character-setting process and it is not a hybrid.

Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'Bobine' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, reference number DEE 4062216, purchased from the French Group for the Study and Control of Varieties and Seeds in Beaucouzé, France. The trials were conducted by the Variety and Seed Study and Control Group in Brion and Arras, France, from March 15, 2012 to February 15, 2014.
