Description:

'Danfestar' is a Baby's Breath variety with very short plant growth habit. The stems are thin with very few, short internodes. Anthocyanin colouration of the stems is very weak to weak. Pubescence of the branches is present. The leaves are green and elliptic in shape. The leaves are very short and very narrow to narrow. Both the longitudinal axis and the apex of the leaf are straight. When viewed in cross-section, the leaf is also straight.

'Danfestar' begins flowering very early. The flowers are small to medium sized in diameter and have few petals. The pedicel is very short. When viewed in profile, the upper part of the corolla is flat. The calyx is cup shaped and consists of five small lobes. The petals are white and the longitudinal axis is straight.

Origin & Breeding History: 'Danfestar' was developed by the breeder, Gabriel Danziger, an employee of Danziger, Moshav Mishmar Hashiva, Beit Dagan, Israel. It originated from an open pollinated cross of proprietary hybrid no. 589 conducted in early 1999 at Moshav Mishmar Hashiva in Beit Dagan, Israel. 'Danfestar' was selected in the summer of 1999 based on its flower size and growth habit. Production and performance trials have been conducted since January of 2000.

Tests & Trials: The detailed description is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, CPVO application number 2002/1491, grant number 13705, purchased from the CPVO, Angers, France. The trials were conducted by the Israel Testing Authority for Plant Breeders' Rights, Agriculture Research Organization, Volcani Centre, Plant Breeders' Rights Testing Unit, P.O.B. 6, Bet Dagan, 50 250, Israel.
