Origin & Breeding History: 'WRHPBB2' was bred and developed by the breeder, Catherien Rutten, of Leende, Netherlands. It originated from an open pollinated cross conducted in the spring of 2005, in Leende, between the Hydrangea paniculata variety 'Barbara', as the female parent, and an unknown male parent. 'WRHPBB2' was selected in the spring of 2008 for its inflorescence form, sepal size, plant vigour, and good production characteristics. Asexual propagation of 'WRHPBB2' by softwood cuttings was first conducted in the spring of 2008, in Leende, Netherlands.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial of 'WRHPBB2' was conducted in a polyhouse during the spring of 2014 and in 2015 at BioFlora Inc., in St. Thomas, Ontario. It included a total of 8 shrubs each of the candidate and reference variety. All shrubs were grown from rooted cuttings that were each transplanted into a 13.2 litre container on June 19, 2013. The observations and measurements were taken from 10 shrubs, or parts of shrubs, of the candidate and reference variety on July 27, 2015. All colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
