Description:

PLANT: non-climbing, upright growth habit, short to medium height
STEM: no fasciation, green, medium number of lenticels in autumn, red lenticels

LEAF BLADE: medium length, medium width, no lobing, elliptic, medium length of tip, obtuse base, medium depth incisions, no variegation, purple, no secondary colour, absent or weak glossiness, medium degree of blistering

FLOWERING: early season
INFLORESCENCE: globular, tall, very large diameter, inconspicuous or slightly conspicuous fertile flowers
CALYX: very large diameter
STERILE FLOWER: single type, strong degree of overlapping
SEPALS OF STERILE FLOWER: margin incisions present on some sepals, white (RHS NN155B) with blue pink (RHS 63B) along marginal zone

Origin & Breeding History: 'H212904' originated from a cross-pollination conducted by the breeder, Niels Arts of the Hydrangea Breeders Association in De Kwakel, the Netherlands, in April 2007. The cross was made between the female parent designated '05-0110-114' and the male parent designated '00-0008-000', both unpatented proprietary selections of Hydrangea macrophylla. In March 2009, a single unique plant was selected from the progeny in a greenhouse in De Kwakel, the Netherlands based on its branching characteristics, vigorous growth, stem strength, type of inflorescence, sterile flower characteristics and post-production longevity. Asexual reproduction of 'H212904' was first conducted in June 2009, in De Kwakel, the Netherlands.

Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'H212904' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number 2014/0035, purchased from the Community Plant Variety Office in Angers, France. The trials were conducted by Groupe d'Étude et de Contrôle des Variétés et des Semences in Brion, France between February 15, 2015 and December 15, 2016. Colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
