Variety used for comparison: 'Amri Trared'

Summary: The plants of 'KLEPZ17509' are of medium width to broad while those of 'Amri Trared' are broad. The inflorescence of 'KLEPZ17509' is of short to medium height and narrow to medium width while the inflorescence of 'Amri Trared' is of medium height and medium to broad width. The upper petal on the flower of 'KLEPZ17509' has a zone present at the base while the upper petal of 'Amri Trared' has none.

STEM: green, absent or very weak anthocyanin colouration

LEAF BLADE: medium to long, broad, medium to deep sinus, strong undulation of margin, slightly opened to closed base, no variegation, medium green on upper side
LEAF ZONE: weak to medium conspicuousness, medium sized, positioned in middle

PEDUNCLE: medium length, absent or very weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration of middle third
INFLORESCENCE: short to medium height, narrow to medium width, medium number of open flowers, largest flower is very long and broad to very broad
PEDICEL: medium to strong intensity of anthocyanin colouration of upper third, no swelling, longest pedicel is short to medium length
SEPAL: strong reflexing, absent or very weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration in middle of broadest sepal
FLOWER: double type, few petals, flat cross-section in lateral view, no irregularly distributed stripes or blotches
UPPER PETAL: broad, spatulate, entire margin at apex, margin and middle of upper side is dark red (RHS 45B), lower side is red pink (RHS 53C), weak conspicuousness of stripes only on upper side, small to medium sized light violet zone at base on upper side
LOWER PETAL: margin and middle of upper side is dark red (RHS 45B), lower side is red pink (more blue than RHS 53C), absent or very weak conspicuousness of stripes only on upper side, very small white zone at base on upper side
INNER PETAL: middle of upper side is dark red (RHS 45B)

Origin & Breeding History: 'KLEPZ17509' originated from a controlled cross conducted by the breeder, Martin Glawe, in Stuttgart, Germany. The cross was made in the summer of 2012 between the female parent variety 'Calliope' and the male parent variety 'SIL Nora'. The resultant seedlings of the cross were selected in May 2013, in Stuttgart, based on growth habit and flower colour. Greenhouse trials of the selections were conducted from 2014 to 2017 with the variety 'KLEPZ17509' being selected for commercialization in May 2014 in Stuttgart, Germany.

Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'KLEPZ17509' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number PEL 2808, purchased from the Bundessortenamt, Hannover, Germany where the trials were conducted in 2019. Colour determinations were made using the 2015 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
