Variety Description

Variety used for comparison: 'Revolution White'

Summary: 'Conbloss' has thinner shoots, smaller leaves and smaller sepals than 'Revolution White'. 'Conbloss' has linear shaped sepals while 'Revolution White' has lanceolate to elliptic shaped sepals. The main colour on the inner side of the corolla tube is white for 'Conbloss' while it is violet with white for 'Revolution White'. 'Conbloss' has less conspicuous veins on the inner side of the corolla tube than 'Revolution White'.

Description:

'Conbloss' has a semi-erect to semi-drooping growth habit. The young shoots are thin to medium in thickness and short to medium in length. The shoots have no anthocyanin colouration. The leaf blade is ovate in shape with a broad acute to obtuse apex. The upper side of the leaf blade is medium green in colour with no variegation. There is a petiole present.

The sepal is linear in shape. The pedicel is short to medium in length and thin to medium in width. 'Conbloss' has a single flower which is funnel form in overall shape. The corolla is white in colour. The veins on the inner side of the corolla lobe are not conspicuous. The margin of the corolla lobe has weak undulation. The corolla tube is very short to short in length and the veins on the inner side are very weak in conspicuousness. The inner side of the corolla tube is white in colour. The anthers are white to yellowish-white in colour.

Origin & Breeding History: 'Conbloss' originated from a cross made between 'Fantasy Ivory' as the female parent and an unidentified selection as the male parent. The original cross was made in December 1998 and a single plant was selected from the resulting progeny in September, 1999. The breeding work was conducted in Shiga Prefecture, Japan.

Tests & Trials: Tests and trials for 'Conbloss' were conducted in a polyhouse in the summer of 2002 in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trials included 15 plants per variety. Rooted cuttings were transplanted into 11 cm pots on May 10, 2002. All colour characteristics were determined using the 2001 RHS colour chart and measured characteristics were based on ten plant measurements.
