Variety Description

Varieties used for comparison: 'Petwiblvgr' (Sanguna White w/ Blue Vein), 'Conblue' (Supertunia Mini Blue Veined) and 'Conbloss' (Supertunia Mini White)

Summary: 'Petwiblv' has thicker shoots than 'Conbloss'. 'Petwiblv' has a narrower leaf width than 'Conblue'. 'Petwiblv' has a smaller flower diameter than the reference varieties. The flowers of 'Petwiblv' are white in colour while the flowers of 'Petwiblvgr' are white with violet tones and the flowers of 'Conblue' are white with light blue violet tones. 'Petwiblv' has less conspicuous veins on the upper surface of the corolla lobe than 'Conblue' and less conspicuous veins on the inner side of the corolla tube than 'Conblue'.

Description:

'Petwiblv' has a semi-upright to creeping growth habit. The shoots are medium in thickness and have no anthocyanin colouration. The leaves of 'Petwiblv' are ovate to elliptic in shape with a broad acute shaped apex. The leaves are not variegated and are medium to dark green in colour on the upper side. Leaf blistering is absent. The sepals are linear in shape and have no anthocyanin.

'Petwiblv' has single, funnel form flowers. The corolla has medium lobing and the corolla lobes are white in colour. The corolla lobe has purple veins which are weak in conspicuousness. The corolla lobe has weak to medium undulation of the margin. The inner side of the corolla tube is light blue violet in colour with weak to moderately conspicuous venation. The anthers are light blue in colour before anther dehiscence.

Origin & Breeding History: 'Petwiblv' originated from a controlled cross conducted by the breeder in June 1999 in Enkhuizen, The Netherlands. The female parent was identified as 'X 1047' and the male parent was identified as 'X 1025'. A single plant was selected in May 2000 based on early flowering, plant habit and vigour. Asexual reproduction of 'Petwiblv' by vegetative cuttings was first conducted in August 2000, in Enkhuizen, The Netherlands.

Tests & Trials: 'Petwiblv' was tested in a polyhouse during the spring/summer of 2005, in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trial included 15 plants of the candidate and reference varieties. All plants were grown from rooted cuttings planted into 15 cm pots on April 29, 2005. All colour measurements were made using the RHS Colour Chart 2001. Measured characteristics were based on ten plant measurements.
