Summary: The plant and leaves of 'USTUN2401M' are larger than those of 'USTUN34803'. The inner side of the newly and fully opened corolla of 'USTUN2401M' are blue pink whereas those of 'USTUN34803' are purple red.

Description:

PLANT: semi-upright to spreading growth habit

LEAF BLADE: elliptic, acute apex with blunt tip, no variegation, medium green on upper side

PEDICEL: weak to medium intensity of anthocyanin colouration on upper third
FLOWER: single type, salverform
COROLLA: medium degree of lobing, medium to strong degree of undulation
COROLLA (INNER SIDE): weak conspicuousness of pink to red veins, blue pink (RHS 67B) when newly opened, blue pink (RHS 67B-C) when fully opened, blue pink (RHS 68B and 73A) when aged
COROLLA LOBE: cuspidate apex
COROLLA TUBE: inner side brown purple (RHS 186B), weak to medium conspicuousness of blue pink (RHS 64D) and black (RHS N187A) veins on inner side, outer side brown purple (RHS 186A-B)
ANTHER: light blue before dehiscence

Origin & Breeding History: 'USTUN2401M' originated from a naturally occurring branch mutation of the variety 'USTUNJ2401'. The variety was discovered and developed by the breeder, Jessica Boldt, in a greenhouse, in Loudon, New Hampshire, USA, in January 2015. The new variety 'USTUN2401M' was selected based on its growth habit, branching characteristics, floriferousness, flower size; and heat and disease tolerance. 'USTUN2401M' was first reproduced asexually by vegetative tip cuttings in January 2015, in Loudon, New Hampshire, USA.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'USTUN2401M' was conducted in a polyhouse during the spring of 2018 in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trial included a total of 20 plants each of the candidate and reference variety. All plants were grown from rooted cuttings and transplanted into 15 cm pots on April 16, 2018. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants, or parts of plants, of each variety on May 24, 2018. All colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
