Variety Description

Variety used for comparison: 'Merida'

Summary: The lightsprout of 'Corinna' is ovoid in shape whereas that of 'Merida' is spherical. The base of the lightsprout of 'Corinna' has sparse pubescence whereas that of 'Merida' has a medium density of pubescence. The lightsprout tip of 'Corinna' has a closed habit and is small in relation to the base while that of 'Merida' has an intermediate habit and is medium sized in relation to the base. The lightsprout of 'Corinna' has many root tips whereas that of 'Merida' has few root tips. The upper side of the leaf of 'Corinna' is medium green whereas that of 'Merida' is light green. The flower bud of 'Corinna' has a high extent of anthocyanin colouration whereas that of 'Merida' has a medium extent of anthocyanin colouration.

LIGHTSPROUT: small to medium sized, ovoid shape, medium to many root tips, short lateral shoots
LIGHTSPROUT BASE: medium to strong intensity of anthocyanin colouration, absent or low proportion of blue in anthocyanin colouration, sparse pubescence
LIGHTSPROUT TIP: small in relation to base, closed habit, weak to medium intensity of anthocyanin colouration, absent or very sparse to sparse pubescence

PLANT: foliage structure is intermediate to leaf type where foliage is half open to closed and stems are partly visible to not or hardly visible, semi-upright growth habit, matures early to mid-season

STEM: low extent of anthocyanin colouration at base of stem

LEAF: medium sized outline, intermediate openness, weak to medium presence of secondary leaflets, medium green upper side, absent or very low extent and absent or very weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration on upper side of midrib, absent or very low frequency of coalescence of terminal and lateral leaflets

Origin & Breeding History: 'Corinna' originated from a cross between E 99/89/130, as the female parent, and B 02/254/36, as the male parent, conducted in 2006 in Ebstorf, Lower Saxony, Germany. 'Corinna' was selected in 2009 based on agronomic characteristics.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'Corinna' was conducted by Global Agri Services Inc. during the 2019 growing season in Drummond, New Brunswick. The trial consisted of a single, 21 metre long row per variety. Each row contained 70 plants spaced 0.3 metres apart with an inter-row spacing of 0.9 metres.
