Variety Description

Varieties used for comparison: 'POULander' and 'Iceburg'

Summary: 'POULreb' has smaller leaves than the reference varieties. 'POULreb' has very double flowers while 'POULander' has semi-double flowers and 'Iceburg' has double flowers. 'POULreb' has yellow flowers while 'POULander' has red flowers and 'Iceburg' has white flowers.

Description:

'POULreb' is a floribunda rose which has an upright to bushy growth habit. The young shoots have medium to strong, bronze to reddish-brown anthocyanin colouration. 'POULreb' has a sparse number of short prickles on the stem which are linear to deeply concave in shape. There are a sparse number of long prickles on the stem. The prickles are pale greenish-yellow in colour. The leaves are dark green in colour with medium glossiness. There are three to five leaflets present. The terminal leaflets have serrate margins and a leathery texture. The base is obtuse to rounded in shape.

'POULreb' flowers mid-season and almost continuously for more than 10 weeks. There is a medium number of flowers per shoot. The flower pedicels have a medium to high number of hairs or prickles. The flower bud is globular in shape and sepal extensions are weak. The flowers are round in shape when viewed from above, flattened convex on the upper part when viewed from the side and flat to flattened convex on the lower part when viewed from the side. The flower centre is normal with floral parts visible on open flowers. The corolla is very double. 'POULreb' has yellow flowers. The flower petals have small spots at the base of the outer and inner side. The petal margin has medium reflexing and weak undulation. The stamen has a yellow filament. The style is medium in length, greenish-white in colour, has medium to strong hairs and is positioned at the same level as the anthers. The receptacle is medium in size, funnel shaped and has no prickles. The flowers have a weak fruit tropicana to spicy fragrance.

Origin & Breeding History: 'POULreb' resulted from the controlled cross between two unnamed seedlings, made in 1988 in Fredensborg, Denmark.

Tests & Trials: Tests and trials for 'POULreb' were conducted at Valderose Gardens in Paincourt, Ontario in 1999. There were a minimum of five plants per variety grown in field conditions.
