Origin & Breeding History: 'Ficre' was discovered and developed by the breeder, Pat Fitzgerald, of Stoneyford, County Kilkenny, Ireland. It originated as a naturally occurring chimera mutation of the Carex oshimensis variety 'Evergold'. The breeder discovered 'Ficre' in August of 2011 in a container at his nursery in Oldtown, Stoneyford. 'Ficre' was selected for its dwarf plant growth habit, robust growth, and variegated foliage. 'Ficre' was first propagated asexually by rhizome divisions in August of 2011, in Stoneyford, County Kilkenny, Ireland.

Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'Ficre' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number 2015/2093, purchased from the Community Plant Variety Office in Angers, France. The trial was conducted by the Department of Food Science at the University of Aarhus in Aarslev, Denmark, in 2016. The colour determinations were made using the 2001 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
