Origin & Breeding History: 'Sunrenilahopas' originated from artificial chromosome doubling of the torenia plant 'Sunrenihopas'. In September 1998, cuttings of 'Sunrenihopas' were treated with 0.1% colchicine solution and were propagated by cutting on the peat. After two months, some surviving plantlets were transplanted in pots. In December 1998, colchiploids were obtained from the cultivation. The plants were propagated by cuttings and grown in bed and pot trials. 'Sunrenilahopas' was selected from these trials.

Tests & Trials: 'Sunrenilahopas' was tested in a polyhouse during the summer of 2005, in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trial included 15 plants of the candidate and reference varieties. Rooted cuttings were transplanted into 11 cm pots on April 28, 2005. All colour measurements were made using the RHS Colour Chart 2001. Measured characteristics were based on ten plant measurements.
