Variety Description

Variety used for comparison: 'Duewicho15'

Summary: The upper side of the leaf blade of 'VEAZ0057' is medium green but lighter than the upper side of the leaf blade of 'Duewicho15', which is also medium green. The inner side of the two upper lobes of the corolla of 'VEAZ0057' are medium red while those of 'Duewicho15' are medium purple red. The inner side of the three lower lobes of the corolla of 'VEAZ0057' are white with medium blue pink colouration at the proximal end while those of 'Duewicho15' are medium blue pink.

Description:

PLANT: creeping to semi-upright growth habit, large width just after the start of flowering

STEM: very strong anthocyanin colouration on middle third of actively growing stem

LEAF BLADE: short, narrow, ovate shape, no divisions, crenate incisions of margin, medium green upper side, no anthocyanin colouration on upper side
PETIOLE: very short to short

INFLORESCENCE: medium diameter, broad ovate in profile
FLOWER BUD: medium blue pink (RHS 68C)
FLOWER: single type, free arrangement of corolla lobes
CALYX: no anthocyanin colouration
COROLLA LOBE: recurved along longitudinal axis, weak undulation of margin
COROLLA: medium diameter, more than two colours present, shaded colour pattern with distribution lighter towards base, strongly fading colour with age, inner side of upper two lobes medium red (RHS 50A), inner side of lower three lobes white (RHS NN155B) with medium blue pink (RHS 68C) at proximal end
COROLLA EYE: absent
COROLLA TUBE: medium length, tip of protruding hairs is light grey

Origin & Breeding History: 'VEAZ0057' originated from an open pollinated cross between two proprietary seedlings, the female parent designated as 'T0975-3' and an unknown male parent, that occurred in August 2014. The resulting seed was sown in February 2015 and 'VEAZ0057' was selected as a single unique seedling in April 2015 based on plant growth, flower colour pattern and abundance of flowering.

Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'VEAZ0057' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, reference number ZHD548, purchased from The Community Plant Variety Office, Angers, France. The trial was conducted by the Naktuinbouw in Roelofarendsveen, Netherlands in 2019. All colour determinations were made using the 2015 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
