Foreign Verification Office
The Foreign Verification Office (FVO) was created in 2016 to enhance Canada's overall food inspection and verification mandate, specifically its presence in foreign countries.
The FVO conducts food safety verifications in foreign facilities that produce food destined for Canada. These verifications contribute to the safety of imported foods to Canada.
The FVO is one of many food inspection tools used by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency to improve food safety. Other measures include audits of the food safety systems of Canada's trading partners, inspection and compliance verification of food manufacturers and importers in Canada, sampling activities, and border controls on imported food.
The FVO prepares an annual report that summarizes its observations during visits of foreign food facilities.
