General

• Origin & Breeding: bred by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada from the cross (NDA8694-3 x Century Russet) at the Lethbridge Research Centre in Alberta, Canada, in 1993.
• Year registered in Canada: 2003
• Registration number: 5657
• Maturity: early

Botanical Features

• Plants: medium height, spreading; stems not pigmented; inconspicuous straight single wings; nodes slightly swollen.
• Leaves: medium green, closed; midribs and petioles not pigmented.
  Terminal leaflets: medium ovate; tip acuminate; base truncate and asymmetrical; weakly wavy margins.
  Primary leaflets: four pairs; narrowly ovate; tip acuminate; base truncate and asymmetrical.
  Secondary and tertiary leaflets: four to nine pairs.
• Flowers: few to numerous depending on environment; white corolla with prominent star; orange anthers; flower buds not pigmented, drop readily; peduncles not pigmented; low berry production.
• Tubers: oblong; brown russetted skin; shallow eyes, moderately numerous, evenly distributed; eyebrows not prominent; white flesh.
• Sprouts: ovoid; blue-violet, base weakly pigmented and weakly pubescent; tip not pigmented, moderately pubescent; semi-open habit.

Agricultural Features

High yielding variety of attractive appearance; good resistance to internal and external defects; medium specific gravity.

• Utilization: mealy texture; low after cooking discolouration and low boiling sloughing; excellent for boiling, baking and frying.
• Chief Market: fresh market.

Reaction to Diseases

Highly resistant: common scab.
Moderately resistant: Verticillium wilt, Fusarium wilt.
Moderately susceptible: early blight.
Susceptible: Fusarium dry rot, late blight.

NOTE: Pacific Russet shows clear foliar symptoms of bacterial ring rot but only moderate tuber symptoms.
