Iraq – Export requirements for meat and poultry products

1. Eligible/ineligible products

1.1 Eligible products

Frozen beef derived from cattle less than 30 months of age (under 30 months (UTM)) including offal.

1.2 Ineligible products

  1. Beef derived from cattle over 30 months (OTM) of age
  2. Offal derived from cattle of over 30 months (OTM) of age

2. Specific requirements/restrictions or additional inspection procedures

The following conditions must be met in order to export beef to Iraq:

  1. 2.1 Canada is officially free of foot and mouth disease, contagious bovine pleuropneumonia, lumpy skin disease, rinderpest and Rift valley fever.
  2. 2.2 The meat or meat products are derived from animals that were born and raised in Canada or legally imported into Canada for slaughter from a country deemed eligible by the government of Iraq to export beef to Iraq.
  3. 2.3 The meat or meat products are derived from healthy animals clinically free from contagious or infectious diseases and which are not suspected or confirmed BSE (Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy) cases. The country of origin is classified by the World Animal Health Organisation (WOAH) as a BSE negligible risk country.
  4. 2.4 Products must not be contaminated with:
    • tonsils and distal ileum derived from cattle of any age and
    • brains, eyes, spinal cord, skull and vertebral column derived from cattle that were at the time of slaughter less than 30 months of age
