Dogs, cats, and ferrets to Great Britain, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man – Commercial movements and non-commercial movements of more than 5 animals

Great Britain, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man officially left the European Union (EU) in 2020 on December 31.

The animal health requirements applicable to the commercial movement (import) of dogs, cats and ferrets to Great Britain, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man are outlined in the Veterinary health certificate for commercial export of dogs, cats and ferrets – PDF (187 kb). Please ensure that all requirement are met in advance of travel.

Qualifications of a commercial movement

Dogs, cats and ferrets are considered a commercial movement if the following conditions are met:

1. they are intended to be rehomed, sold or their ownership is being transferred to owners in Great Britain, even if you're travelling with fewer than 5 animals;
2. the number of dogs, cats and ferrets which may accompany the owner or an authorized person during a single non-commercial movement exceeds 5; or
3. they are accompanying their owners or an authorized person responsible for such animals on behalf of the owner during their movement however they will be travelling more than 5 days earlier or 5 days later than the movement of the owner.
